Our partnership with the Byrnes Health Education Center has afforded our Academy students the ability to learn how the “Body Works” through innovative, hands-on activities. Theater Programs 

A visit to the Byrnes Health Education Center is an exciting and interactive experience! Each of our five teaching theaters integrates interactive learning and teaching exhibits.

A list of our theater programs are below.  All programs meet state and national education standards.

Disease / Violence Prevention

AIDS & the Immune System
Grades 8-12, 90 Min.
Addresses the intricacies of the immune system including its response to pathogens. Specifically, HIV/AIDS and HIV transmission are discussed with a strong emphasis on prevention.

AIDS: What Kids Need to Know
Grades 4-7, 60 Min.
Explores the healthy immune system and the changes that occur when the system is exposed to the HIV virus. The myths and concerns participants may have about HIV/AIDS are addressed. Students learn the ways in which HIV is transmitted with a strong emphasis on prevention.

Bacteria Busters
Grades 1-3, 60 Min.
Focuses on different types of germs, how germs are transmitted, and how our bodies fight against germs. Learning proper hand-washing techniques will motivate students to have good personal hygiene.

Bullying Hurts

Examines violence and bullying students may face in their daily lives. The impact of stress on physical well-being is presented. This program focuses on self-confidence and behavior choices needed to resolve conflict.

abuse, marijuana, medicine abuse, methamphetamine, tobacco, or synthetic drugs.

Organ Tales

Inside Story

SenseAble Me

Shows how the senses work, protect us, and enable us to learn about our world. Participants see how the brain interprets message from the senses, witness sound waves traveling through an ear, search for taste buds on a giant tongue, and more!

Tuff Tooth

Demonstrates proper oral care with the help of our giant tooth exhibit. Activities help take the fear out of going to the dentist and relate healthy food and drink choices to oral health.

Human Growth & Development

Life Begins

The anatomy of the reproductive system, fertilization, fetal development and the birth process are included in this program. Decision making and STI’s are also examined.

Teen Talk

In this innovative program, participants learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices. Topics include nutritional needs, the importance of reducing the risk for heart disease and other

Just Fueling Around

Science

Dynamic forensic-based programs designed to enhance the knowledge of human body systems. Students will utilize crime scene investigative techniques to solve mysteries designed by our educators. Each individual program focuses on specific body systems, along with instructor guided hands-on activities that all lead to “Whodunit”. Choose one mystery from below:

Blood at the Scene (Circulatory/Respiratory)
Grades 4–6, 120 Min.
There is a break-in. One suspect is captured but one got away. We have an eye witness and incriminating evidence left on some broken glass. Through interviews and analysis the criminal will be identified.

Study bone remains found at the Byrnes Health Education Center. Read all about the possible victims, measure and analyze the clues to solve the mystery. Just who is it and how did they wind up at the Byrnes Health Education Center?
